Objection 6 of 21

Jesus and Lucifer as brothers

All spirits are children of the Father. Jesus is Jehovah. Lucifer is a fallen angel. Origin is not equality.

The objection

You teach that Jesus is the spirit brother of Lucifer — a created being who progressed. That’s blasphemy.

  • What they say

“You say Jesus and Satan are brothers.”

  • They quote · Colossians 1:16

“By him were all things created… whether they be thrones, or dominions.”

From the Bible

They say

Jesus created all things — He cannot be Satan’s brother.

We agree Jesus is not a creature like Lucifer. Hebrews 1: the Son is worshipped; angels are not. Job 38 already has sons of God shouting at creation. Revelation 12: the dragon is a fallen star, not Jehovah’s equal. Sharing a Father in the premortal world is not sharing glory, office, or worship.

  • Hebrews 1:5–6

KJV · Unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son…? And again… let all the angels of God worship him.

NRSVUE · For to which of the angels did God ever say, ‘You are my Son…’? And again… ‘Let all God’s angels worship him.’

  • Job 38:7

KJV · When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

NRSVUE · When the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?

From the Book of Mormon

They say

Your scriptures make them twins.

2 Nephi 2: Lucifer fell from heaven and became a devil. Jesus is the Messiah. Same book, not the same rank. The fight is the word “brother.” Strip it: we believe Jesus is God the Son and Lucifer is a rebel angel. They believe that too, minus the premortal family language.

  • 2 Nephi 2:17–18

An angel of God… had fallen from heaven; wherefore, he became a devil, having sought that which was evil before God.

From modern revelation

They say

Moses 4 makes them peers in a contest.

Moses 4 / Abraham 3: the premortal Lord is chosen; the adversary rebels. That is Isaiah 14 and Revelation 12 with names. Jesus is the Firstborn and the Chosen. Lucifer is cast down. FAIR’s page is the one-breath answer: same origin-story language, not the same glory.

  • Moses 4:1–2

Satan… said… I will redeem all mankind… Because that Satan rebelled against me… I caused that he should be cast down. But, behold, my Beloved Son… said unto me—Father, thy will be done.

From faithful sources

They say

This one sentence ends the discussion.

It only ends the discussion if you let the word ‘brother’ do all the work. FAIR: we worship Jesus. We do not worship Lucifer. Origin is not equality. Say that, then teach the plan.

From Preach My Gospel

Lesson 2 — Plan of Salvation

“Jesus Christ is the Firstborn of the Father in the spirit and the Only Begotten in the flesh. Lucifer rebelled and became Satan.”

One breath: ‘All of us — including the one who fell — are spirit children. Jesus is Jehovah. We worship Him. We do not worship Lucifer.’ Then teach the plan.
