First Vision Accounts
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Critics shrink James to a proverb so they do not have to deal with a theophany. The Bible’s God has never been limited to small answers. Solomon asked for wisdom and got a kingdom. Joseph asked which church was true and was told to join none of them. If James 1:5 cannot bear a vision, neither can Acts 9 bear Paul.
The verse invited a boy to ask. The Father and the Son answered. The size of the answer is God’s business.
- James 1 is about asking God, not about forbidding visions.
- Joseph’s question was a wisdom question: whom should I trust?
- The same people who limit James will quote it themselves in a crisis.
